All About Electric Vehicles

VOL.2 @Development story of “Lithium-ion battery”, the heart of electric vehicle!

Here in “All About Electric Vehicles” is explained clearly and detailed, from basic knowledge of electric vehicle to an interview with developer or more technical terms.

In 2nd Volume here, Makoto Kataniwa, who is a member of the marketing team, EV Business Planning Department of i-MiEV Business Office, tells about the basic knowledge of electric vehicles continued from previous Volume.

This time highlights the safety and the charging performances of the battery.

Q: Will the day come when the wind will back up the driving energy?

I heard someone proposed about electric vehicle, “How about installing power-generating windmill?“

To be sure, the power generation using windmill is a very unique idea, and I think the idea of using natural energy is well-fitted to the eco-car. Actually, in the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, we exhibited “i-MiEV SPORT”. This vehicle was equipped with power-generating windmill with the same idea as the proposal. On the other hand, it can be a difficult technological idea actually, because it will become just an air resistance unless it is well-designed. In addition, if we want to charge a lot more, a larger fan will be needed, and not advantageous in air resistance. Anyway, to make electric vehicles more environmentally-friendly than other vehicles, it is important for drivers to focus on the eco-conscious driving to reduce the energy consumption, while electric vehicles have a possibility of making further progress as a eco-car by expanding such technological ideas of producing wind and solar power.
